If you don't mind lots of walking, this is a nice shopping center. As an outdoor mall, come prepared for the weather. They do have a few umbrellas you can borrow along the walkway. It really helps if you know where you're going in advance, because you don't want to park on the opposite end, and it's really too big to just wander. There are some sculptures (Boomer the lion, bears, eagles, etc.) and at least one playground for kids (Caterpillar-themed), plus a nice open area in the middle with tables. They put a giant fake tree up for the holiday season. There is a coffee shop with some sandwiches, and some sit-down restaurants, but nothing if you want a quick bite to eat in the shopping themselves. You will have to drive across parking lots or hike to one of several surrounding fast food places if you don't like what the coffee shop has to offer. The coffee shop was really slow both times I ate there—a Subway or Jimmy John's would be the perfect addition. I usually just go to Bergner's. It's a lot of clothing stores plus Dick's sporting goods, with a few other random things scattered in between. Landscaping is pretty and always looks nice.
Whew, everything grand and more. Super bunch of shoppes with varied offerings. Many nice products and souvenirs offered at fair prices. Like all over the park, the help is very friendly. Maybe it's the beauty or fresh air but all the help we encountered was quite nice and helpful. They all seem well trained too. It's a must stop while visiting the park. You're sure to find something you will want to take home. -RB
Too fancy. Tasteless. Confusing arrangement. Scattered here and there. But how to get there.
A nice place to walk around a bit, or to sit out and relax on a nice day. Not a lot of cover from the elements, especially cold and windy days. Not a lot of variety in stores.
An outdoor mall, The Shoppes at Grand Prairie has been around a few years now and unfortunately along with some of the newness wearing off, so has the variety in stores. I have a feeling ownership here charges a bit too much for rent as good stores that fit the high end theme of this mall haven't been able to last and empty stores is the result. Don't get me wrong, this is still one of the better places to shop in Peoria and the remaining stores have quality to offer but unless you are primarily into shopping for clothing items you will likely be bored outside of the one sporting goods store. The Internet is no doubt stiff competition for brick and mortar stores and had its impact here as well as anywhere.
